Important Notes:

It is completely normal for your teeth to be sore during Invisalign Treatment, this is especially true for the first few weeks of treatment. Take tylenol as needed.

● Avoid Ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) as these can slow down tooth movement.

● Wear your trays at least 22 hours each day to ensure proper movement of teeth.

● It is safe to drink water and other sugar-free beverages with your trays in. Absolutely no sodas or any other sugary drinks.

● Your first two sets of trays and last two sets of trays should be worn for 2 weeks each.

● All trays should be worn for one week each unless otherwise prescribed.

● If you lose a tray, try in the next tray. If it fits well you can continue as normal.

● If your lose a tray and the next tray is not fitting well, go back a tray and text/email us as soon as possible. It will take 1 week for your replacement tray to come in.

● There is a $35 fee for replacement trays. Do your best not lose any trays.

● Use your munchies for 2-3 minutes every time you put your trays back in to ensure
proper fit of tray.

● Use your munchies for 10 minutes each when you first wake up and right before going to bed to ensure proper fit of trays. This helps speed up tooth movements as well.

Invisalign wear

You must wear your Invisalign trays 22 hours a day. Take them out to eat, brush and floss!
Treatment is only working while trays are in, so If periods of time pass and trays are not in the mouth, small increments of “relapse” can occur which will greatly affect treatment responses and time.

**When you take out your trays, always place it in the case (never in a napkin, on the table etc).

Attachments:

Attachments are made of clear composite material and are placed on the teeth to help the aligners express certain movements. It is very important that the “bumps” or attachments on the teeth engage into the corresponding “bubbles” in the Aligner.

Each time you place your aligner it is very important that you check to be sure the attachments are engaged. If it is not engaged, the attachment can possibly work against your treatment plan– Check attachments daily and if one is chipped, broken or loose, notify us promptly.

Aligner “Munchies” are used to aid in seating attachments and help the teeth “track” in the aligners. Use them several times a day for 5-10 minutes upon the direction of the doctor.

Changing Aligners:

After the set amount of time, (1 weeks) change to your next set of trays. Reduced pressure does not indicate that movements are not occurring. Changing aligners at night allows for easier removal in the morning and lessens any discomfort.

Other Important Information:

If you break or lose a tray, call our office immediately. Should the Invisalign tray need to be replaced due to loss, the fee for replacement is $35. If the tray needs replacement because it is broken or torn, it will be covered under warranty. You must wear something to keep your teeth from drifting. Call our office immediately for directions. If you are at the end of the 1-week period, you can move on to the next tray. If you are not at the end of 1 week, you will have to go back to the last aligner, and we will order a replacement aligner for the lost one.

Keep your current aligner in the case. Keep all your aligners previously worn in a bag-do not throw them out, we sometimes have to back up to previous aligners. Bring your current and previous aligner to all your office visits.

A new scan may be necessary during or at the end of treatment. It is not an indication of something “wrong”, but simply the doctor’s way of adjusting in the treatment. This is called Refinements — At the end of your first series of Invisalign, it may be necessary to wear another series of before the plan is completed.

**Lack of cooperation/Lack of Aligner wear can result in additional treatment fees to complete your treatment.

Cleaning your trays:

You can clean your aligners with your toothbrush and toothpaste or an electric toothbrush. Invisalign sells Aligner Cleaning Crystals (www.invisalign.com). You can also use a denture foam. Do not use denture cleaner that has any colored mouthwash in it. The aligners tend to absorb the color. Do not soak them in colored mouthwash. Never put the aligners in hot water! It will distort the plastic or melt them.
