Braces To Effectively Straighten Teeth
Misaligned, crooked, or uneven teeth affect the appearance of your smile and they can impact your overall oral health. When your teeth are not straight, you can experience bite issues and your teeth may wear out faster than usual due to uneven biting surfaces. Brushing and flossing your teeth may require more effort as well, and if you’re unable to clean your teeth properly, you will be at a higher risk for gum diseases. It doesn’t have to reach that point, we can do something to correct the alignment of your teeth with braces.
How Braces Work
Braces place constant, gentle pressure on your teeth and the force of the pressure helps move teeth into proper position over a period of time. There are several types of braces available and each style offers a slightly different mechanical method and look, but they all move teeth to their optimal position. The style of braces you choose may be influenced by a number of factors, including visibility, cost, lifestyle, or a particularly challenging realignment need. Not all braces will resolve all misalignment issues, we can help you choose the style best suited to your individual needs.

Traditional Metal Braces
The most common type of braces are metal and are suitable for almost any age of patient. The improved style and design make modern traditional braces more comfortable than ever before. They are made of high quality stainless steel or titanium and consist of a metal bracket bonded to each tooth, an archwire that runs through each bracket around the jaw putting pressure on the teeth, and elastics to tie the archwires to the brackets.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are very similar to traditional metal braces, however, instead of the brackets being metal, they are made of ceramic. For patients who prefer an orthodontic device that is less noticeable, you may want to consider ceramic braces. They can be colour-matched to your teeth!
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces may work best for you If you’re concerned about your braces being visible as you smile or speak. Although costlier than the conventional metal orthodontic device, lingual braces will not make it obvious you’re receiving dental work. The difference being, lingual brackets and the archwire are secured on the inside of your teeth which makes them invisible to anyone other than you.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is a near-invisible method of straightening and correcting teeth without the use of conventional metal braces. We create a series of clear, custom-made aligners (similar to a mouth guard or teeth whitening tray) that gradually reposition your teeth to their most optimal alignment. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks at a time and then switch to the next set of aligners and your teeth gradually move to their optimal position. The aligners are removable while you eat or drink.
